Getting African Universities to top quartile sticky icon

Only three African Universities, all based in South Africa, have been found within Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Top 500 in 2009.  Clearly there is a need to take a closer look at this ranking and work towards more, and indeed almost all African universities, being in this ranking in the foreseeable future.

Your opinion counts

Global university rankings help to drive enhancement and maintenance of high quality in universities. Unfortunately no African university features in the top 200 of some of the most reputable rankings. Only three feature in the top 500 and they are all South African universities. The highest of these is ranked 262nd.

Why do you think African universities need to use their best endeavors to pursue top quartile global ranking?
